FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DOES OPENSERVE COVER MY AREA
Openserve has the widest Fibre coverage network, and we are continuously rolling out across South Africa. To check whether your area is covered, visit our website - hermanusfibre.co.za . Should your area not be covered, you can let us know by sending us an email to fibre@hermanus.co.za

DO I PAY FOR FIBRE INSTALLATION
There is no cost to residents of an area, or the Homeowners Association (HOA) of a complex for the installation of Fibre infrastructure. Openserve will provide infrastructure outside the premises or units, enabling residents to apply for service. An Installation fee from Maxitec will then apply to do the final connections to the respective units after placing an order with Maxitec.

UP/DOWNGRADE & CANCEL ANYTIME
We don't like contracts. So, we allow upgrades and downgrades of Fibre speeds up until 5pm on the last day of the month. Keeping in mind that fibre speed upgrades are solely dependent on the provider. To cancel, we need just one calendar months' notice. If you are still in the Promo period of 6 months, then it's one month's calendar notice and R1999 early cancellation fee.

HOW IS FIBRE DIFFERENT FROM DSL
DSL is dependent on Telkom copper wire infrastructure, which is often unreliable and can be slow if you have a bad line or are far away from your local exchange, whereas Fibre transmits data with pulses of light over a fibre optical cable. These cables are far more reliable than copper wires and can offer far greater connectivity speeds.

CAN I USE MY CURRENT ADSL ROUTER
Probably not, as Fibre works very differently to DSL. But you may, in some cases, be able to use your existing WiFi enabled router to spread your Fibre connection via WiFi. This will depend on which router you have and how the provider installs your Fibre line. But don't worry - we will provide a free fibre router...

TROUBLESHOOTING FIBRE ISSUES
Confirm that the electricity is turned on, and all your internet and WiFi equipment, including the Openserve Optical Network Terminal (ONT), are correctly plugged in and turned on. If the problem persists please contact Maxitec.
